Marijuana remains the most commonly used illicit drug among college students. The co-morbid use of marijuana and alcohol (the most common drug of abuse) among college students is a high-risk factor for multiple acute and chronic problems, including drugged driving, academic failure, mental health problems, and substance abuse disorders.

Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Forum

Drug-Free Communities Support Program: Upcoming Workshops to review the Request for Proposals

The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), will host three workshops to assist potential applicants in completing their FY2012 Drug Free Communities Support Program (DFC) Request for Applications (RFA).

ONDCP and SAMHSA intend to publish an RFA in the coming weeks and, as in previous years, will host workshops related to the completion of the RFA. .

Feb. 2: Austin, Texas

Feb. 10: National Harbor, Md.

There is no registration fee for the workshops and they will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. Each workshop will conclude at 1 p.m. Native American/American Indian Question & Answer Sessions will be held from 1-2 p.m. in each location (please register if you are interested). The only item on the agenda is the FY2012 DFC RFA. Each workshop will solely cover the FY2012 DFC RFA and are not general technical assistance workshops for coalitions. Attendees should come prepared having read and re-read the FY2012 DFC RFA and be ready to ask questions related to the RFA only.

Drug Free Communities Grant

Coalition resources: Drug-Free Communities Support Program The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), today released the FY2012 Drug Free Communities Request for Applications (RFA).

The purpose of the DFC Program is to establish and strengthen collaboration to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. Since 1998, ONDCP has awarded approximately 2,000 DFC grants, with up to 30 new awards expected in FY 2012. Grants have been awarded to communities from every region in the nation including rural, urban, suburban, and tribal communities. Additional grantee information is available on the DFC website.

Application deadline March 22nd, 2012
