Drug Free Communities Grant

Coalition resources: Drug-Free Communities Support Program The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), today released the FY2012 Drug Free Communities Request for Applications (RFA).

The purpose of the DFC Program is to establish and strengthen collaboration to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. Since 1998, ONDCP has awarded approximately 2,000 DFC grants, with up to 30 new awards expected in FY 2012. Grants have been awarded to communities from every region in the nation including rural, urban, suburban, and tribal communities. Additional grantee information is available on the DFC website.

FFY 2012 Minnesota Synar Report

The highlights are that of the 286 retail sites randomly selected for Synar Inspections (246 able to inspect) only six sites sold to minors for a 97.6 compliance rate – the highest compliance rate in the history of Minnesota Synar Inspections.

2011 Human and Economic Cost of Alcohol Use in Minnesota

This report estimates that alcohol cost Minnesota about $5.06 billion dollars in 2007 which is the most recent year all the data are available. When the cost is divided by the Minnesota census estimates for that year it comes to a cost of $975 per person. The report also determined the cost is about 17 times the amount of tax revenue the state took in from alcohol sales that same year.
